Local AI

Local AI for translation

You can translate locally in two ways. NLLB-200 is Meta's specialist for about 200 languages: it gets the meaning across and sounds plainer. A multilingual chatbot such as Qwen3.8 or Gemma 4 writes more natural prose when the computer can hold it, and it covers fewer 'long tail' languages with the same care.

Questions people actually ask

Which should I pick?

If the computer is small, or you need a rare language, use NLLB. If you have room for a 16 GB or larger chat model, that model usually writes the nicer sentence.

Does it replace a human translator?

Not for a contract, a medical note, or anything you cannot afford to get slightly wrong. It is a strong first pass.
